Dutch Oven Chili Soup
Hey friends, it is that time of the year, when I am craving chili and soup. J That oh so comforting warmth of soup alongside the gentle kick of chili, ready to calm down the chills of my tummy. My family on the other hand, particularly my husband, dreads the season of winter. Not because of the cold weather, but because he doesn’t like soup! Which is a crying shame, since I absolutely love soup, to the point where I could have it twice a week, for the rest of my life.
However, in efforts of meeting my thirst for soup and my husband’s dissatisfaction for soup, I created Dutch Oven Chili Soup. He loves chili and I love soup, so what could go wrong? Which reminds me that it’s actually like a good relationship. To bring harmony, one good tip is to combine what you BOTH love, instead of focusing on where you differ, and the result could be explosive! Hot, like chili! Whew!
Now let’s go back to the soup, shall we? When soup is cooked slowly and on low heat, the spices are infused together, creating a mouth-watering taste, which leaves you craving for more. That’s why I LOVE the Dutch Oven! It’s really perfect for slow cooking and this method helps extract the flavors of your ingredients…down to the last drop.
If you try making this dish, you will get a medley of flavors in your mouth. And who knows? You may even have that “Ratatouille” moment? Remember that mouse-Remy-as-a-chef movie when the food critic’s childhood memories came crashing in just because of a simple veggie dish? Well, this soup will not only comfort you, but may also trigger some wonderful memories. That warm, fuzzy, tingling feeling! We all want that, right? Well, this Chili Soup will help satisfy that yearning of warm comfort food on a “chilly” day.
In the past, I’ve prepared chili with ground beef, ground turkey, chicken and beef tips, however in this recipe I did not add any meat. Why… well the reason is because meat tends to create the “thickness” of chili. Good chili should be nice and thick; not too runny. But today, we are making Dutch Oven Chili Soup in a Dutch oven! 🙂 Yeah, I know. I’m just raving about Dutch Ovens!
Nonetheless, I honestly cannot imagine cooking in general without a Dutch oven. Dutch ovens are so awesome because they are like crock pots on steroids. Crock-pots are cool kitchen gadgets when away from home, however I prefer to use my Dutch ovens as often as I can. But if for some reason you don’t have one yet, it’s high time (I mean seriously!) to invest in one and add it to your kitchenware collection. Believe me, you got to have one! Or two if you have a huge family or just throwing a mean celebration out there…
With all honesty, I believe you will enjoy this dish just as much as we do. Chili Soup brings warm satisfaction for the entire family to enjoy. As a parent, I want to make sure each meal and each dish not only nourishes my kids’ bodies but also feeds the spirit of our family, as a whole.
Plus Dutch Oven Chili Soup is full of clean protein and hearty easy to find vegetables. One more tip. For the vegetables, try to get whatever is in season. The produce will be at their optimum quality, so you’re getting value for your money. Freshness at its peak, so to speak! Hey, that rhymes ha ha ha! Must be the chili in my soup. Man, if you can plant your own veggies in your backyard, then that would be awesome. I’ve talked about this before, and I’m saying it again. Do try growing your own PRODUCE. The joy you can get once you begin harvesting is incomparable!
